is a place for high school students to get away from their everyday routines;
a place that is committed to their voice and needs. The center is a walk-in
program for 14-18 year olds living in the City of Torrance or attending
a Torrance High School.
is a direct reflection of students' input. The programs are organized and
implemented by high school students with adult supervision.
is decorated in a coffee shop atmosphere, which was designed primarily
by the students themselves, containing every type of necessary equipment
and furniture that helps a student wind down after a long day. The front
doors open to a giant living room setting complete with comfy overstuffed
couches, colorful chairs , stereo system, pool table, big screen TV and
more delights! It's the perfect place for everyone; there is something
for everyone!
A meeting
room and adjacent offices house the "Options" program. This program consists
of peer counseling, life session training, post-graduate decision making,
health education, academic tutoring, community business lineup, job training,
classes, sports, tournaments and access to several online computers. The
main focus of the "Options" program is to offer self-help resources and
access to human service professionals.
THE
OPTIONS
THE RESOURCE
The
resource room provides usage of computers for research, homework assignments,
personal interest and resources. The center supplies hands-on training
of software applications including Microcrosoft Office, Word, Excel, Power
Point, and Print Master. Students have an opportunity to learn communication
skills using the internet, modern e-mail and web sites.
THE MULTI-PURPOSE
The
multi-purpose room is used by student members for class projects, discussion
groups and special events. The center develops an assortment of special
events that complement the regular ongoing programs. This months

The room is also utilized for
presentations, guest speakers, special interest classes, club meetings,
live entertainment and much more.
THE FITNESS
The
fitness room is open Monday through Thursday. 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
Staff is available to supply instruction on equipment usage. The fitness
room provides the machines to tone and shape muscles. In addition
to equipment, there will be fitness classes, including step aerobics, kickboxing,
yoga, karate and jogging to provide a complete fitness program.

THE ATTIC CAFE

situated inside THE ATTIC
and sells an assortment of inexpensive light meals, snacks and beverages,
which is available during late afternoon and early evening hours.

game room provides the perfect place to relax and enjoy some of the latest
in video game technology.

THE RECREATION
The
recreation provides teens with the opportunity to participate in activities
including fitness, sports and classes. The program assists participation
of fun recreational activities. The center provides unlimited kinds

THE ADVISORY
COMMITTEE
.....consists
of minimum of 16 members which include two representatives per high school
and two representatives from the Torrance Youth Council. The committee
is responsible for communicating with peers, assessing their wants and
needs, advising, recommending and encouraging activities and programs,
and staying updated with current peer interests. Meetings are held
